Akquinet Port Consulting at TOC Europe: Enabling the Digital Journey for Port and Terminals as a Trusted Partner

Attending TOC Europe (Terminal Operator Conference) in Rotterdam this year was an incredible experience, especially with Akquinet Port Consulting's active participation. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet new faces and reconnect with old friends, many of whom have become trusted partners and close friends over the years.

Busy Days at the Akquinet Port Consulting Booth
Our booth was bustling with activity from the moment the conference opened on Tuesday until the carpets were rolled up on Thursday. We had a constant stream of interested customers and partners, all eager to learn more about our CHESSCON solutions. The industry's keen interest in our simulation, electrification, emulation, and digital twin technologies affirmed the relevance and impact of our offerings. Notably, the topics of “automation,” "decarbonization," and "electrification," garnered significant attention. Our CHESSCON Emulation supports automation at multiple levels, from integration to QA, and our simulation solution integrates decarbonization, enabling terminals to explore various scenarios for charging and equipment.

Highlighting Global Smart Ports
One of our key moments was when our Managing Director, Holger Schüt, presented alongside other industry leaders on the development of Global Smart Ports in South Korea. His insights and expertise were well-received, contributing to the broader conversation on how ports worldwide can leverage smart technologies to enhance their operations.

Themes of TOC Europe

The conference itself provided a comprehensive look into several critical themes that are shaping the future of port and terminal operations:

Artificial Intelligence & Digital Innovations:
AI and digital innovations were at the forefront of the discussions. Sessions highlighted how technologies like digital twinning are revolutionizing port operations, enabling more precise berth planning and setting new standards in operational efficiency.

Integrating Automation Solutions:
Automation was another crucial topic, with companies such as DP World, RBS EMEA, Kuenz, Visy Oy, and Kaleris sharing their insights. The benefits of automation—ranging from increased throughput to enhanced safety—were clearly outlined, underscoring its importance in modernizing port operations.

A Holistic Approach to Energy Transition:
Energy transition was a major focus, with discussions on this shift's challenges and opportunities. Companies like CMA CGM, APM Terminals, and Yilport shared their strategies for adopting sustainable energy practices, emphasizing the need for a holistic approach that includes technology, regulatory compliance, and workforce training.

Digitalizing Maritime Trade:
Digital solutions for maritime trade were also a key focus. Speakers from IKEA Supply Chain, Camco Technologies, and the Port of Barcelona highlighted how digital innovations streamline logistics and improve supply chain visibility, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing the environmental footprint.

Networking and Celebrating Milestones
Beyond the sessions, TOC Europe offered ample opportunities for networking. With over 200 exhibitors, the exhibition floor was a hive of activity, showcasing cuttingedge solutions that promise to drive the next wave of innovation in the industry.
This year also marked the 30th anniversary of WorldCargo News, and their presence at the event added a celebratory tone. Meeting the team and discussing the future of maritime logistics was a highlight, as they shared special offers for subscribers and advertisers to mark the occasion.

Looking Ahead: TOC Europe 2025
As TOC Europe 2025 approaches, I am excited about the continued evolution of Terminal Operating Systems (TOS) and the ongoing push for interconnectivity and optimization in port operations. The insights gained this year have underscored the importance of embracing digital and operational advancements. I look forward to seeing how these trends continue to shape the future of port and terminal operations. Akquinet Port Consulting has booked a booth for TOC Europe 2025, and we look forward to seeing you there!

Overall, TOC Europe was an enlightening and inspiring event, reaffirming that the future of the industry is bright, driven by innovation and a commitment to sustainability.
