A digital twin is being developed at EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg. The IHATEC-project, TwinSim, aims to develop this for process optimization at the terminal. It visualizes real-time data, especially from straddle carriers, and uses IIoT technologies for potential optimizations. We spoke to Michael Kugler at AKQUINET about the project's status and the role of the TIC4.0 standard.

Before building a terminal, layout planning and scenario calculation are crucial. Whether terminal blocks are parallel or perpendicular to the water side depends on conditions like terrain, cargo handling, transhipment rate, and automation plans. Changing the layout later is challenging due to the costly and intricate construction for paving and RMG rail tracks.
